The Chippers Top 5

Predictions for Week 1:

Atlanta Falcons @ Kansas City Chiefs

Without Tamba Hali and Brandon Flowers, the Chiefs will not be able to stop Julio Jones and Roddy White. Kansas City’s offense is not good enough to win shootouts, even at home. The Chiefs have a lot of great football ahead of them, but they’re running into a bit of a buzzsaw in Week 1. The Falcons just have too much offensive firepower to be stopped this week.

Prediction: Falcons 27, Chiefs 21

Buffalo Bills @ New York Jets

Expect Buffalo to come out on top. The Jets offense has been woefully bad in the preseason, while Buffalo has looked good. Mario Williams and the Buffalo defensive line should tee off against an overmatched Jets offensive line on their way to rattling Mark Sanchez. Don’t expect many points in this one.

Prediction: Bills 16 Jets 10

San Francisco 49ers @ Green Bay Packers

The 49ers have the defense to make things tough on the Packers, but they won’t be able to stop them. Once the Packers get ahead, the SF offense lacks the firepower to catch up. So even if they do slow Green Bay down, it won’t be enough. The 49ers will find success pounding the football with Frank Gore and friends. In the end, the Packers make one more play than the Niners.

Prediction: Packers 27, 49ers 20

Carolina Panthers @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are putting some great things together, but the Panthers already have a good thing going of their own. Cam Newton aside, the Buccaneers are going to have serious trouble stopping the Panthers rushing attack. Add in a quarterback who can beat opponents any way he wants, and this could get ugly in a hurry if Josh Freeman doesn’t keep pace.  This should be a great game.

Prediction: Panthers 24 Buccaneers 14

Pittsburgh Steelers @ Denver Broncos

What – you think I wasn’t going to pick this one?  Steelers defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau will undoubtedly test Manning early to see just how in-sync the Broncos are on offense early. Even without Ryan Clark, Pittsburgh will be able to pressure Manning. This will be a great test for both clubs with Denver coming out on top in the new Peyton Place.

Prediction: Broncos 21 Steelers 17

First of all, the NFL pre-season is just about over and I just took a look at the standings.  Now I know that they don’t count for anything, but you can’t tell me that these guys don’t enjoy losing those games!  I did a double take when I looked at the AFC East pre-season record and found that those four teams have combined for one stinkin win this summer!!!  The Patsy’s are the only team with a win!!  I think that came against Johnson & Wales Cooking School!!  Wow – is it going to be a long year for that division!  On the other side of the East, the NFC counterparts have an outstanding  12 – 4 record in the pre-season.  I’d like to know who you think is better – The Patriots or the Eagles?  Click that Comments button and let me and everyone else know.  I wonder if the Dolphins, Bills and J-E-T-S, Jets Jets Jets are in a panic??

Second of all, speaking of panic, you still have time to go to www.pigskingolf.com to sign up for the best Office Pool Game there is on the web.  It’s crunch time with only five days left to get yourself or a group of your friends, family or co-workers signed up to win a Bunch of Money!

For those of you that played last year, come on back and let’s get the ball on the tee!  You got plenty of time and you know the drill.  It’s easy to play and even better when you win!

If you’re a fan of Survivor games, then sign up to play the new PigSkinGolf Survivor game!  Enter up to 3 times to take a shot at the $5,000 pot!  For those of you that have signed up already, thank you very much and Good Luck!

The clock is ticking so hurry to www.pigskingolf.com today!

Is anybody out there still a fan of Chad Ochocinco/Johnson??  Kudos to the new young Dolphin Head Coach that had the guts to say, Please just go away!!  How many times are we going to be subjected to this idiotic behavior like Mr. Johnson has recently displayed?  Surely, these kinds of players are starting to get the message that Mr. Goodell simply isn’t going to tolerate this nonsense.  For every moron out there that has made a couple bucks and, for whatever reason, thinks that their talent is going to get them through what you and I would be completely embarrassed and ashamed about, there’s 100 better human beings waiting for their chance to shine.

Good riddance Chad…your act is washed up and nobody thinks you’re funny anymore.  Go fix things with your wife you loser.

As I was listening to ESPN radio today, the topic was the significant NFL records that stood to be broken this season.  These are the categories:  The Most consecutive seasons with at least 100 catches, The Most overall returns for a touchdown, The Most interception returns for a touchdown, The Most consecutive games with at least one touchdown pass, The Most interception return yards in a career, The Most scoring seasons of at least 500 points.

The one that’s the loftiest of records is the Concesutive Game Passing a Touchdown record.  It’s currently held by Johnny U.  He tossed a TD pass an incredible 47 straight games from 1956-1960!!  Drew Brees currently has a streak of 43 games in a row and some think he’ll take down Johnny’s record.  I think Brees is a great quarterback and certainly a model player and citizen, but there’s some things that just shouldn’t be messed with and in my opinion, I hope Mr. Unitas still holds the mark after this year is done.  Brees already busted another favorite player of mine in Dan Marino’s Most Passing Yards in a Regular Season record which I thought would never be touched.  What do you think?

Here we are on the eve of the Hall of Fame Game and I don’t know about you, but it’s about time.  I know it’s still summer and I’m a little bummed because I’ve only managed 5 total rounds of golf so far this year.  That’s about 25 less than normal, so I’m really looking forward to seeing some football.

We know that we won’t see much of the starters in this game, but it’s more symbolic than anything.  Just letting us football fans know that everything is ok and yes, it’s business as usual….well, except for the battling NFL referees.  Honestly, they have to get a deal done.  Give ‘em the money and extra vacation and all the other stuff they want to make sure we don’t have to endure substitutes that will embarrass themselves.

My wife and son are going to the Cape for two weeks starting tomorrow morning leaving me behind to do horrible things like playing golf and watching football on the first day gone…have pity on me.
